What it means — Simply

If you are arrested: Police MUST tell you why. You have the RIGHT to a lawyer of your choice. You MUST be produced before a magistrate within 24 hours. These are not privileges — they are your constitutional rights.

Real-Life Scenario

Situation

Police arrest you at 9 PM. They cannot keep you in a lock-up beyond 9 PM the next day without producing you before a magistrate. If they do, it is illegal detention.
